The v6.0 Hungry Frog German language software program has added the opportunity for players to play in head to head play or team play. There are now several ways to move from one frog to another during game play which were not available in previous Hungry Frog German language games. See the German language game fun Menu for details on playing the two player game.
Only one frog at a time can be Hungry in the single player game. This frog has a different color text and hops the highest of all the frogs. In the above Hungry Frog german software screen capture movie sequence (where the screen size is tiny!), you can watch as the Hungry Frog changes from one frog to another frog and see the text color change and the hopping of the frog change in amplitude. In the single player game, you can either use mouse control to move from frog to frog by clicking on frogs with the mouse, or keyboard control. When you use mouse control (which you can at any time, whether or not you use the keyboard to also control frog selection), you click on a frog, and it becomes hungry. To help you with your German pronunciation, the frog speaks its name (the German word or German phrase) ,and it starts to hop up and down more than any of the other frogs. It will keep speaking its name periodically as long as it is hungry to keep you reminded of the correct German pronunciation of the German dictionary word it represents.
In addition and simultaneously with using mouse control in the single player game, you can also move from frog to frog in the single player game using keyboard control. Because each time you move from one frog to another, the new frog speaks its name aloud to keep emphasis on German pronunciation, you always know which frog is the Hungry Frog even without needing to always be looking on screen at the area where the frogs reside. This can be an advantage when you are playing the game, because it means you can use the mouse just for eating bugs and use they keyboard for all you frog selection changes. You never have to move the mouse down out of the main bug area, and you can eat bugs a lot faster. When you use keyboard control to control your frog selection, there is 'wrap around' at the leftmost and rightmost frogs. If you are on the rightmost frog and move to the right you end up on the leftmost frog and if you are on the leftmost frog and move to the left you end up on the rightmost frog. If you play on a large screen, it will really help to use the mouse for bugs and the keyboard to move from frog to frog as on a large screen moving from way up in the top to way down in the bottom with the mouse every time you want to change frogs can slow down how fast you can eat bugs.
To use keyboard control in single player game just press the 'space bar' to move one frog to the right, or use the '>' ('.') key to move to the right and the '<' (',') key to move to the left.
Keyboard Control Summary (Single Player Game)
Move Right: 'space bar', '>' ('.')
Move Left: '<' (',')
In the two player Hungry Frog German program and other Hungry Frog games with the two player options, you move using the keyboard only.
Two players play simultaneously in the same game eating the same bugs and using the same frogs. Each player moves his frog selection using the keyboard. Player One uses the '1', '2' keys to control his or her 'frog cursor' which is that player's colored bar under the frog. Player Two uses the '7', '8' keys to control his frog cursor. '1' and '7' move to the left one frog. '2' and '9' move to the right one frog. Just the same as single player game, there is 'wrap around' so if you are on the rightmost frog and move to the right you will change the selection to the leftmost frog and if you are on the leftmost frog and move to the left you end up on the rightmost frog.
In the two player game both players can be on the same frog at the same time. In the two player game both players can simultaneously eat with the same frog or with different frogs. Both games are running in parallel, but both players are eating the same bugs on screen at any given time. Only ONE frog can eat any bug at any time however, so when a bug is selected for both players only one player will be able to eat it. See the German language game fun Menu for details on playing the two player game.

Single Player Game
In the Single Player Hungry Frog game there is only one means to eat bugs, and that is by clicking on them with the mouse. When you click on a bug, the Hungry Frog attempts to eat that bug.In the Hungry Frog German language software program, that means that the German word or German phrase of the frog must have as an English definition in the German lesson German dictionary currently in play the bug you clicked on for the frog to successfully eat that bug. If there is no English definition matching that bug in that frog's German dictionary entry for it, then you fail to eat the bug and are penalized. Note that the German dictionary and the list of English definitions may change, but what matters is the German lesson file you are using in the game and what the definitions are in that lesson. You can click on as many bugs as you want as fast as you want. As long as the bugs are correct, the frog will eat them. A frog can be eating many bugs at the same time. You can also click on a bug, have the frog start to eat that bug, then immediately move to a new frog (you can use the keyboard quickly move to the new frog and keep the mouse in the bug area of the screen), and then click on a different bug with an English definition for the German word on the newly selected frog. That way you can have several frogs all eating different bugs at the same time.
In the two player game players eat bugs using the keyboard only.
Player One eats bugs by pressing the '3' key. Player Two eats bugs by pressing the '9' key. Since both players can be on the same frog at the same time, both players can always simultaneously eat with the same frog if both players are on it at the same time, or they can simultaneously eat with different frogs. Remember, only ONE frog can eat any bug at any time however, so when a bug is selected for both players only one player will be able to eat it. See the Fun Menu for details on how to play the two player game.
Bonus Bugs can appear in the game world at any time. They appear one at a time or sometimes in groups. They can provide free Score Points, free Time Bonus points, or upgrades to the current Hungry Frog's tongue thickness if they are Tongue Bonus bugs. For both the single player and the two player games, any frog can eat any bonus bug when given the chance. Bonus bugs work similarly in both the single and two player games. When two players are playing at the same time, score bonus bugs give the player who ate the bug an increase in his or her score and also increase the overall game score, just like in the solo game. Time bonus bugs give their overall time bonus to the game time bonus clock identically in both games. Tongue bonus bugs increase the Hungry Frog's tongue bonus tongue power up identically in both two and single player games. Read more about how Tongue Bonus Bugs work at the Game Dynamics page.
Always be ready to gobble any bonus bugs you see on screen, as they only linger for a short period of time!
